Während es ja beim Acer H340 und IBM Lenovo D400 einfach ist, mit einem VGA-Kabel und dem Setzen eines Jumpers eine vollwertigen Rechneknecht zu installieren, ist das beim HP Datavault X312 (Specs #1, #2) schon schwerer.

Zwar ist das Pinout bei beiden gleich, doch der HP X312 hat keinen Jumper für “USB Keyboard enable” und reagiert nicht auf Eingaben während des POST.

Das heisst, reagieren tut er schon. Drückt man z.B. F11 meint er noch ganz großzügig, dass das Boot-Menü aktiviert wird, aber der Rechner läuft einfach weiter. PS/2 würde zwar eventuell funktionieren, aber wer hat schon Bock, um 3 Uhr nachts das Löten anzufangen?

Es muß aber ein Linux drauf, WHS geht ja mal garnicht… Und folgendermaßen lässt sich auch Debian oder $lieblingsdistro ganz einfach installieren:

Zuerst ein Acronis-Image der WHS-Partition auf Platte #1 gemacht, währenddessen das selbstgeschusterte VGA-Kabel angesteckt und ausprobiert – Hurra, geht.

Mein X312 versucht ohne Festplatten via PXE zu booten. Das ist doch eine Idee… Alle 4 1TB-Platten rein, vorher die Partitionstabellen gelöscht, angeschaltet – wieder ein PXE-Boot Versuch. So wird ja auch das Recovery des WHS durchgeführt: Per LAN-Kabel direkt an einen PC anschliessen, der mit dem Recovery Tool dann ebenfalls DHCP und den PXE-Boot abwickelt.

Das können wir auch!

Schnell tftp und dhcp-server auf der Seagate Dockstar installiert, das Debian Netboot-Image geholt, ausgepackt, Reboot des WHS – Boot!

Ich hatte noch Bedenken, dass beim “Press F12 for Network Boot” die Tastatur noch deaktiviert wäre, aber alles geht. Sobald der POST durch ist, steht die USB-Tastatur voll zur Verfügung, der Debian-Installer lässt sich normal bedienen, und die Kiste komplett installieren.

    Ja, mit Preseeding (http://wiki.debian.org/DebianInstaller/Preseed) geht’s wie auf jedem anderen x86-Rechner auch.

    ich hab die partitionstabellen gelöscht und dann ein Live-System mit SSH von USB-Stick gebootet.
